In observance of 9/11, Misericordia University is hosting the third annual 9/11 Constant Flag Carry Ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in which members of the campus community take turns carrying the United States flag around campus.
The event begins with a remembrance service at 8:45 a.m. in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater. The ceremony includes prayers and readings from students, faculty and staff. A special recognition will be observed at 8:46 a.m. to memorialize when the first of two terrorist planes hit the World Trade Center in New York City killing more than 2,600 people.
Students, staff and faculty are participating in the Constant Flag Carry as individuals or as departments, clubs, organizations or athletic teams. They carry the flag in 15-minute intervals, beginning and ending at the amphitheater. The Constant Flag Carry takes place through 4 p.m., when there will be a closing ceremony.
More than 500 people have participated in the event annually since it began in 2015. The public is welcome to attend both the opening and closing ceremonies, and to observe the Constant Flag Carry observance throughout the day. Coordinator for the project is Lindsey Riddell, community outreach coordinator at Misericordia University. For additional information, please contact Riddell at (570) 674-8041 or at email@example.com
Members of the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team, lead by Coach Jim Ricardo, were among the 500 people who participated in the Misericordia University 9/11 Constant Flag Carry Ceremony in 2015.
