Mass Communications and Design students earn two Communicator Awards

The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA) recognized Misericordia University Department of Mass Communications and Design students for their work on the campus television station MCN 87 by awarding them two Communicator Awards in the 24th annual competition that honors creative excellence in communications. The award-winning television segments came from Season 10, Episode 1 of "Hey You, MU!" that aired Feb. 24, 2017. The entire show can be found online at https://youtu.be/g6piC7P-Azk.

The "Hey You, MU!" cast and production team received a 2018 Award of Distinction in the Film/Video - Student category for the inaugural feature segment, "Cougar Spotlight - Jeff Kelly," a profile of Kelly, the manager of cultural and special events and theater director at Misericordia University. The segment is posted online at https://youtu.be/Wi7j39BRpNE.

The team also received a 2018 Award of Distinction in the Film/Video - Sports category for "The Zone - Grand Slam," a feature on professional wrestling hosted by Sean Lynch, a May 2018 graduate from Monroeville, New Jersey. The segment is posted online at https://youtu.be/08-mQ7whx7A.

In addition to Lynch, the cast and production team members honored include December 2017 graduates Mike Gombita, Equinunk, and Ron Williams, Harding; May 2018 graduates Destiny Anderson, Salome, Arizona; Connor Swagler, Nichols, N.Y., Anthony Vega, New Windsor, New York, and Lena Williams, Harrisburg; current students Samantha Allen, New Milford, and Collin Zelinsky, Haddon Township, New Jersey.

The Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program honoring creative excellence for communication professionals. The annual contest recognizes the best in advertising, corporate communications, public relations and identity work for print, video and interactive media. Judges from the AIVA reviewed more than 9,000 entries before naming the winners of the 2018 Communicator Awards.
