Misericordia Players presenting 'Jesus Christ Superstar' in April
Posted 03/15/2019 03:00PM

The Misericordia Players will present the rousing Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, "Jesus Christ Superstar," on April 11-14 in Lemmond Theater at Walsh Hall. The 1970 rock opera features the music of Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. It debuted on Broadway in 1971 and is loosely based on the Gospel account of the last week of Jesus' life, ending with his crucifixion. The award-winning music includes the well-known songs, "Everything's Alright," "I Don't Know How to Love Him," and "Hosanna."

Jennifer Hunter and Robert Burns will provide musical accompaniment as the conductor on keyboard and on percussion. Joining them are Frank Gruden, keyboard; Jason Santos, guitar, and Dirk Yahraes, bass – members of the rock orchestra, "Twelve Twenty-Four.'' The orchestra was formed in 2002 and is known for their holiday rock concerts. Their music has been captured on the CDs, "Miracle on Rock Street" and "Light in the Dark," and their most recent EP, "Transcendence."

Performances on April 11-13 are at 8 p.m., and on Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m. The cost is $8 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens, Misericordia students and alumni. Tickets are available at the door, at the Misericordia Box Office in Walsh Hall or online at
