Office of Multicultural and Inclusion Initiatives


Mission

The office of Multicultural and Inclusion Initiatives serves as a resource to students, faculty, and staff. The office provides educational programming focused on celebrating diverse cultures, traditions, ideas, and backgrounds in addition to providing opportunities for the campus community to engage in dialogue about inequity and social justice. Programs include speakers, trainings, workshops, community conversations, off-campus trips, and heritage celebrations. Additionally, the office of Multicultural and Inclusion Initiatives advocates for underrepresented identities on campus to ensure that all community members feel welcomed on campus.



Goals

  • Raise cultural awareness for the campus community highlighting cultural differences
  • Promote an inclusive community that values mutual respect, appreciation and acceptance of various identities
  • Provide experiences for students to identify goals, discover interest and develop professional skills
  • Mentor students to become excellent leaders
  • Encourage participation in activities that promote social responsibility

Annual Diversity Camp

The Annual Diversity Student Camp is a one week camp for high school students in the 10th-12th grade that focuses on critical concerns that are apparent in the real world. Every year the theme changes, this year it will focus on the influence of Diversity in all academic majors ranging from the health sciences to liberal arts. Along with college readiness, camp will focus on inclusion and acceptance of varying cultures, a service component, and workshops to develop leadership skills. Diversity Camp will also offer opportunity for active participation on workshop topics such as, financial aid, SAT prep, time management, one-to-one active mentoring with current Misericordia University Students, hunger simulation, multicultural awareness, and team building.
